John Felix Anthony Cena  was born April 23, 1977 and he is an American professional wrestler, actor and television host.

He is the son of Carol (born Lupien) and John Felix Anthony Cena Sr. His mother is English and French speaking – Canadian descent, while her father has Italian descent.

His grandfather from his mother side was baseball player Tony Lupien. He has an older brother who is named Stephen and three younger brothers named Dan, Matt, and Sean.

He is the cousin of computer scientist Natalie Enright Jerger. Raised Roman Catholic, he attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, before transferring to Cushing Academy, a private preparatory boarding school in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. 

He then attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts,  where he was an NCAA Division III All-American center on its varsity football team. He was wearing the number 54, which is still used on some of his WWE merchandise.

He graduated from Springfield College in 1999 with a degree in exercise physiology and body movement, after which he pursued a bodybuilding career and worked as a limousine driver. He is one of the most faimous athletes in America.

Ultimate Pro Wrestling 

He start training to become a professional wrestler in 1999 at Ultimate Pro Wrestling’s (UPW) California-based Ultimate University operated by Rick Bassman. Once he was placed into an in-ring role, Cena began using a semi-robotic persona known as The Prototype . 

Part of this period of his career was documented on the Discovery Channel show Inside Pro Wrestling School . He held the UPW Heavyweight Championship for 27 days in April 2000. He wrestled for UPW until March 2001.

John Cena Early Appearances 

On October 10, 2000, while being billed as The Prototype , he was making his unofficial debut for the then-World Wrestling Federation (WWF) on a SmackDown! taping a dark match against Mikey Richardson, which he had lost.

He received another test on January 9, 2001, on a SmackDown! taping in Oakland, California, this time defeating Aaron Aguilera wrestling again in a dark match on a SmackDown.

In 2001, he was signing a developmental contract with the WWF and was assigned to their Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) developmental territory.

During his time there, he was wrestling under the ring name The Prototype and he was helding the OVW Heavyweight Championship for three months and the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship (with Rico Constantino) for two months.

Throughout 2001, he was receiving four tests for the WWF main roster, while wrestling multiple talented upgrade wrestlers at both WWF house shows and in dark matches prior to WWF televised events.

During the early months of 2002, he found himself constantly competing on WWF shows, where he wrestled the likes of Shelton Benjamin and Tommy Dreamer

After his main call in June 2002, he continued to appear on OVW programming until September 25, when he lost to Kenny Brolin in an OVW Loser Leaves match. 

He will appear later in a one-off appearance for the developmental farm in November under the ring name Mr.P in a six-man tag team match, where he was teaming with future WWE Hall of Famer Big Boss Man and Charlie Haas, in a winning effort against Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch and Sean O’Haire.

On the June 24 episode of Raw , Vince McMahon ordered the entire roster to the ring and stated that he needed them to find “ruthless aggression” within themselves and that he was looking for one of them to stand out from the rest.

He made his WWE television debut on the June 27 episode of SmackDown! responding to an open challenge from Kurt Angle. After declaring that he possessed “ruthless aggression”, he lost to a pin combination, but managed to put in a good performance. 

After the match, he was congratulated by Billy Kidman, Faarooq, Rikishi, and The Undertaker. After the near victory, he was becoming a fan favorite and he began feuding with Chris Jericho, defeating him at Vengeance.

He then feuded with Los Guerreros (Chavo and Eddie Guerrero) and earned a victory over Chavo Guerrero on the September 7 episode of Velocity .

On the September 12 episode of SmackDown! , he was teaming with Edge in a losing effort against Los Guerreros, thus ending the feud in the process. 

He later went on to beat the likes of Albert and D-Von Dudley, since he was restricted to appearances on Velocity during the rest of September. 

In October, him and Billy Kidman was participating in a tag team tournament to crown the first-ever WWE Tag Team Champions of the SmackDown! brand, losing in the first round. 

Next week on SmackDown! , he turned on and attacked Kidman, blaming him for losing him, turning heel for the first and only time in his WWE career. 

On the October 17 episode of SmackDown! , he defeated Kidman in a singles contest  but was ultimately defeated by Kidman in a rematch on the October 24 episode of SmackDown!

He has granted more than 650 wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the most in Make-A-Wish history.

From late 2011 through Wrestle Mania XXVIII, Cena wore a black “Rise Above Hate” T-shirt promoting WWE’s “Be a Star” anti-bullying campaign. 

In September and October 2012, Cena wore pink and black with the phrase “Rise Above Cancer” in association with Susan G. Komen for the Cure as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

In November 2016, Cena appeared in a public service announcement, “We Are America“, sponsored by the Ad Council as part of their “Love Has No Labels” campaign.

When he was promoting his 2009 film 12 Rounds , he was announcing his engagement to Elizabeth Huberdeau. They got married on July 11, 2009. On May 1, 2012, he was filing for divorce, which was finalized on July 18.

They became engaged when Cena proposed to her at WrestleMania 33 on April 2, 2017,  but ended their relationship in April 2018; were scheduled to marry on May 5, 2018 .

He has said on numerous occasions that he does not want to have children because he does not want to be an absentee father while he is focused on his career. 

Cena is a fan of anime and has named Fist of the North Star as his favorite anime movie. He also plays video games, citing the Command & Conquer series as his favorite.

In December 2017, Ford Motor Company filed a lawsuit against Cena for selling his 2017 Ford GT, thereby violating their purchase agreement.

In July 2018, he was briefly moving to China, where he took up residence in Yinchuan. He went on to create a YouTube show on the WWE channel, highlighting his trips to local stores and markets.
