Nicki’s Minaj Type Of Music
When I started rapping, people were trying to make me a typical New York rapper, but I’m not that. No disrespect to New York rappers, but I don’t want people to hear me and know exactly where I’m from.

Minaj is known for her upbeat rap style and unique flow. Her rapping is distinguished by its speed and use of alter egos and accents, primarily British Cockney. She often sings and raps in her songs and combines metaphors, jokes and puns in her work.

Her alter egos are incorporated with her lyrics in British accents (Roman Zolanski) or soft voice (Harajuku Barbie). Ice-T said of Minaj’s rapping style: “She does her own thing. She has her own way of doing it. She has poor vocal delivery. She reminds me of a female Busta Rhymes, like the way she pitches her vocals in different directions.

The New York Times called Minaj “a brilliant rapper with a flair for comedic accents and unexpected turns of phrase. She’s a walking exaggeration, huge in sound, personality and looks. And she’s a rapid evolution, shedding the old ways so easily like embracing the new ones.”

Although many critics describe her technique as bubble gum rapping, Minaj said, “What people don’t know is that before she did that crazy thing she was doing to me, I was just doing a regular-sounding rap that anyone could hear and identify with. But once I started doing all that weird stuff, I don’t get mad because it got everyone’s attention.”

Known as a rap artist, she lends herself to electronic music genres (especially electropop). Pink Friday marked her exploration of her genres, spawning electro songs including the pop-laden “Super Bass”.

Also combining rap with synthesizer music, Minaj’s second album featured several electro-hop and electro-pop songs: “HOV Lane”, “Whip It”, “Automatic”, “Come on a Cone” , “Young Forever”, “Fire Burns”, “Roman Holiday” and “Beez in the Trap”; while “Starships” is a eurodance song. She collaborated with other artists, which led to more electronic songs: “The Boys” with singer Cassie and “Beauty and a Beat” with Justin Bieber

Her verse in Kanye West‘s “Monster” was critically acclaimed and contributed greatly to his popularity; many critics said it had the best verse of the song. Her verse was listed by Complex as the best rap verse of the 2010s.  West stated at one point that he considered removing his verse from the track, because he was concerned it would overshadow the his own work:

It was like that moment where I thought I’d take Nicki’s verse off of “Monster” because I knew people would say it was the best verse on the best Hip Hop album of all time or possibly the top ten album of all time.

And I did all that work, eight months of work on “Dark Fantasy” and people to this day were like, ‘My favorite thing was Nicki Minaj’s verses.’ So if I let my ego get the best of me instead of letting that girl have a chance to make that platform all that it could be, I’d take it away or sideline her, try to prevent her from having that shining moment.

Tara Colley of The Conversation described Minaj as a “pre-eminent rapper” and that she “has constantly played off the various personas of gangsta boss and sexy pop siren without really committing to either” and that “her chameleon-like ability” he matches “with some of the most verbose, witty, dirty and friendly stars in pop” like Eminem and Lil Wayne.

Zoe Johnson, a writer for XXL , stated that in recent years “Minaj’s beat selection has moved into a polished production full of grit and hip-hop flair in recent years.”

Every time you’re in the news, it’s because you’re messing with someone. Where’s your music? Put your music on, and when I see your name on Billboard , that’s when I’ll get back to you. Other than that, bye. It’s Barbie , bitch “.
