He was born on July 6, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He is the son of Henry Robert Witherspoon and Nancy Hart

He was growing up with his single mother, Nancy, and his brother, Robert Hart. He is American by nationality and is of African American ethnicity.

In order of his educational background, he was graduating from high school in his hometown. Later, he was entering the Community College of Philadelphia. He then was moving to New York City. After that he was moving to Brockton, Massachusetts, and found work as a shoe salesman.

He has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after his black Mercedes nearly collided with a tanker truck on a Southern California freeway on April 14, 2013.

Later on August 5, 2013, he has been sentenced to three years in prison probation after he was pleading no contest to a count of driving under the influence of alcohol.

On January 3, 2019, Hart announced that he was going to reconsider his resignation as host, after openly lesbian comedian Ellen DeGeneres, who has hosted the Academy Awards multiple times, expressed her support for him to have him did and said that he called the Academy to ask if he could reverse his decision if he wanted to and, according to DeGeneres, the Academy said he could. 

On January 8, after a backlash over what was perceived as an insincere apology, Kevin Hart announced that he would not be hosting the Academy Awards.  The ceremony was held without a host that year.

On September 9, 2020, Muscular Dystrophy Association executives announced plans to relaunch their annual MDA telethon, move it to October 2020, and make him their new host, taking over the duties they had previously held between 1966 and 2010 comedian and former MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis.
